Field Grasshopper

Scientific name
Chorthippus brunneus

Identification
15-25 mm long with sharply angled side keels, wings are no longer than the hind-knees. This species has a distinctive hairy underside thorax.

Song
Series of two short chirps per second for between eight and 20 seconds.

Habitat
Hot sunny rocky ground, mainly in coastal areas but can also be found alongside roads.

Local status
Mainly coastal areas with a few records inland.
