Dumfries & Galloway

Dumfries and Galloway  lies in the southwest corner of Scotland, and includes the most southerly point on the Scottish mainland (the Mull of Galloway). Covering some 6000 square kilometres it is a large region with a small population of around 150,000 people. It has a wide range of habitats: the Southern Uplands reach over 800m across the north of the region whilst extensive estuarine and rocky coastline flank the south and west. It is also one of the most wooded regions of Scotland with approximately one third of the land area under forest, most of it commercial in nature.  The administrative region is covered by 3 Watsonian Vice Counties:  VC72 Dumfriesshire, VC73 Kirkcudbrightshire and VC74 Wigtownshire.
