Ayrshire

Located in South West Scotland, Ayrshire is home to a wide array of species and habitats. The region covers the administrative areas of the three Ayrshire local authorities and stretches from Glen App on the shores of Loch Ryan in the south to Largs and Skelmorlie in the Firth of Clyde in the north, and from the Isle of Arran in the west to the Muirkirk hills in the east. Covering over 3,000 km², it encompasses the whole of Vice County 75 (Ayrshire) and part of VC 100 (Clyde Isles). Although agriculture and forestry are the dominant land uses, with high ground reaching altitudes of over 800 m and over 200 km of coastline, there is plenty of variety to support a broad diversity of plants and animals.
