The wide variety of habitats in Dumfries and Galloway support a wealth of wildlife, from the Svalbard Barnacle Geese that winter on the Inner Solway mudflats and the Mountain Hares found on the Southern Uplands, to the various cetacean species found in the Solway and off the west coast.
Within these pages, you will be able to find out more about a range of species groups in the region, including butterflies, dragonflies and plants. Each page will give an overview and photographs of each group, highlighting common species, as well as indicating the habitat types where you will be able to find some of our rare and Local Biodiversity Action Plan species.
