In 2006, the DGERC was awarded funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to run an exciting new project in Dumfries and Galloway. Neighbourhood Nature Watch, which ran until October 2007, increased the opportunities for local communities to find out about wildlife in their local area and encouraged people to record the wildlife they see.
The project incorporated a number of aspects, aimed at encouraging people to find out more about their local wildlife. Activities included two surveys in summer 2006, a conference for people interested in local wildlife and wildlife recording and a publication pulling together an overview of the year’s wildlife recording activities. The project also enabled the establishment of DGERC’s former website.
