Dragonfly ID day

Ringford

Join SWSEIC to learn how to recognise the common damselflies and dragonflies found in SW Scotland.

The event will be led by Mark Pollitt (SWSEIC Manager) and will take place at Ringford on Saturday 13th July. In the morning there will be an indoor session in the village hall, looking at dragonfly biology and key ID features of our local species. In the afternoon we will head out to the nearby Barstobrick Visitor Centre, where there are a group of ponds within a short walking distance of the Centre. The event alos links in with activities being held by the Scottish Wildlife Trust Galloway Group, who will be at Barstobrick ponds throughout the day showing visitors some of the dragonflies that live and breed in the wetlands there. Weather permitting, there should be an opportunity to see several common species at close range and learn key identification features in the field. The day will be suitable for beginners and improvers – no previous knowledge or experience necessary.

Cost £5. All attendees will get a free copy of the SWSEIC booklet Dragonflies and damselflies in SW Scotland, a 48pp guide to local species and their known distribution in D&G and Ayrshire.

The extent of the afternoon event activities will be weather dependent. Places are limited and booking is essential.

Please book here through the Eventbrite website.
