SWSEIC Wildlife Recorders’ Gatherings – Spring 2025
This spring SWSEIC will be holding two half-day gatherings for our local wildlife recorders. The events will include presentations about local wildlife and conservation projects and provides a chance to highlight how wildlife recording contributes to this work. It’s also a great opportunity to meet up and socialise with other local wildlife recorders and enthusiasts in the region.
The cost for each event will be £5 which will help to cover venue hire and refreshments. Details for each event can be found below.
Dumfries and Galloway gathering at Dumfries:
Saturday 15, March at 09:00 – 13:00, The Bridge, Glasgow Rd, Dumfries, DG2 9AW
The presentations will cover a variety of different aspects of the region’s flora and fauna. Topics confirmed include Badgers, Black Grouse and rare plants in Kirkcudbrightshire. There will be an update from SWSEIC staff on last year’s activities and finds, along with our plans for 2025. As usual we will incorporate a short quiz and a raffle.
In the afternoon attendees will have the option to join a guided walk along the River Nith lead by SWSEIC, Elaine Rainey Scottish Badgers and David Hawker & Sarah White from the Kirkcudbrightshire Botany Group or join local moth recorders for a series of talks on scarce moth and their habitats.

Ayrshire gathering at Troon:
Saturday 5th April, 09:00 – 13:00, Troon Town and Walker Hall, Municipal Buildings, South Beach, Troon KA10 6EF
Southwest Scotland Environmental Information Centre (SWSEIC) is pleased to invite local wildlife recorders and wildlife enthusiasts to our Ayrshire Wildlife Recorders’ Gathering in Troon on Saturday 5th April 2025. The event will be an informal morning of talks and presentations about various aspects of wildlife and habitats in SW Scotland. Topics include pollinators, cemetery wildlife watch, and wildlife recording and museums.
In the afternoon attendees are invited to join SWSEIC & local birder Jim Galbraith for a walk around Troon Marina and Port Ronnald.

Teas, coffees and biscuits will be provided on arrival and in the morning session break at both events, but please note that lunch is NOT provided. Participants choosing to stay on for the afternoon walk or meeting must bring their own packed lunch.
