Kirkcudbrightshire Botany Group meeting – Mersehead
Mersehead RSPB Reserve
KBG meeting at the RSPB reserve at Mersehead. Meet at the RSPB car park (NX925562) signposted off the A710 near Caulkerbush (the Dumfries-Sandyhills coastal road). Usual time 10 am, lunch and walking shoes, possibly wellies if we get to the wetter parts.
The aim is to record plants on RSPB’s recently acquired land to the east of Mersehead where there is the Marsh Fern Thelypteris palustris at one of its only 2 VCs and the only Scottish sites – it is Nationally Scarce. The site has a wide variety of habitats from dunes, wetland scrub, marsh and grassland. If there’s time, we might look at some of the VC’s seashore rarities.
Please contact David Hawker if you plan to come along.
